Last night the Nate LaPointe Band played acoustic night a this little place in Santa Monica, CA called Trip.  Wedged in between The Luvnaughts and a female singer songwriter I didn’t get the name of, Nate LaPointe Band certainly stood out as the highlight of the evening.  Sans their bass player, Ivan Johnson, the NLB took the stage with Nate on acoustic guitar/vocals, Dave Johnson on keys and Chris Payne playing the drum box.  CC Sherman, the newest addition to the NLB line-up provided some much needed female vocals to the group.

The NLB’s bluesy, folky Americana sound is steeped with influences that range from the psychedelic rock of the 60′s to the down home blues of the Mississippi Delta.  The accomplished guitarist from Laramie, WY has truly developed a sound that is unique to his own and after years of playing with Southern California’s premier Grateful Dead tribute, Cubensis, as well as occasional gigs with Motown great, Bobby Womack, Nate’s personal style is shining through.  Currently working on finishing up their second album, due out before the holiday season, the Nate LaPointe Band should be the band to watch for in 2010.  If you love good guitar playing, there’s no question the Nate LaPointe Band is worth the price of admission.

Since this week is going to be an epic Bob Weir week for me, Bobby’s playing in San Diego AND Los Angeles, I thought I’d post this most wonderful version of Bob Weir performing “Desolation Row” by Bob Dylan at the Grove of Anaheim from 2007.  Enjoy!
