ELECTRIC FOREST’S “PLUG IN” FAN ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM BLURS LINES BETWEEN ORGANIZERS AND ATTENDEES

ELECTRIC FOREST CHOSEN AS ONE OF “THE WORLD’S BEST MUSIC FESTIVALS” BY JETSETTER

2013 LINEUP INCLUDES THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT, PRETTY LIGHTS, PASSION PIT, EMPIRE OF THE SUN, KNIFE PARTY, DISPATCH, BENNY BENASSI, YEASAYER, A-TRAK, GRIMES, RAILROAD EARTH, TROMBONE SHORTY & ORLEANS AVENUE, FEMI KUTI & THE POSITIVE FORCE, MADEON, HEADHUNTERZ, BAAUER, DANNY BROWN, GREENSKY BLUEGRASS AND MANY OTHERS

This festival season, Electric Forest returns to the Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury, Michigan on June 27- June 30, 2013. Today, Electric Forest’s “Plug In” Program – the festival’s innovative fan engagement platform – is in full swing. With many unique participation opportunities and several winners already announced, thousands of Electric Forest fans have been showing off – and sharing – their creativity, talent, and loyalty to the fest. Check out these stories submitted for the “Electric Moment” contest, the winners for Timeline Photo contest and Instrumental Forester competition, and the top submissions for the ongoing Chari-T Shirt Design contest. Visit www.electricforestfestival.com for details on all of the Plug In opportunities, including the hugely popular Hoop Troupe contest launching tomorrow (Wednesday March 27). Additional contests still to be announced.

Known for fully embracing the possibilities of an engaged festival community, Electric Forest’s Plug In Program deliberately blurs the line between event organizers and attendees. With this truly unique “open source” approach, the festival is able to harness the creativity and passion of its community members, offering real and tangible ways for fans to participate in and ultimately help shape the Electric Forest experience. This is a big deal, since for Electric Forest – experience trumps all.

Through these ever-evolving participation programs, Electric Forest has “reinvented the sense of unity [that can happen at a music event], insisting that mainstream festivals can be so much more for people than just a party. Rather an artistic playground for…young adults to communicate their innovative ideas and art-works through any means fathomable.” (The Untz)

Recently chosen as one of “the world’s ten best music festivals” by Jetsetter, Electric Forest is widely recognized for propelling the U.S. festival scene into a brave new era of music and camping festivals.

The reasons for this stellar reputation are many. Undeniably known for delivering “the ultimate festival experience,” (IMF Magazine), Electric Forest offers incomparable VIP accommodations, unique on-site features and amenities, astonishing and unparalleled integration of music and art, and a vibe so thick with “camaraderie and freedom…it must be experienced to be appreciated.” (Consequence Of Sound)

Hailed for its deep, diverse, and often unexpected lineup curation, Electric Forest 2013 features performances by live music pioneers The String Cheese Incident (3 performances), Pretty Lights, Passion Pit, Empire of the Sun, Knife Party, Dispatch, Benny Benassi, Yeasayer, A-Trak, Grimes, Railroad Earth, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, FEMI KUTI & The Positive Force, Madeon, Headhunterz, Baauer, Danny Brown, Greensky Bluegrass and many more. The complete list of currently confirmed performers is available at www.electricforestfestival.com, with additional artists still to be announced.

At the heart of Electric Forest, the beloved Sherwood Forest is “with no exaggeration at all, the most well produced and artistically inspired area…ever seen at a music festival” (Magnetic Magazine). Showered with state-of-the-art, jaw-dropping light displays, intricate and earthy artful touches, and everything in between, in 2013 the Sherwood Forest is expanding in size for the first time ever. Fans can look forward to more to discover, wonder and wow.

Also in 2013, Electric Forest’s unrivaled GOOD LIFE VIP experience promises even more stellar amenities and perks. From camping and RV spots, to log cabins and homes, to resort hotel-style suites – all located directly on the festival grounds – The GOOD LIFE has something for all budgets and tastes. The festival’s exclusive site – hailed as “THE best place to hold a music festival” (Magnetic Magazine) – offers trails, forests, fields, lakes and beachfronts, and even on-site bars and eateries. In addition, Electric Forest patrons can take advantage of the resort’s many amenities including a 60,000 square foot indoor water park, an 18-hole championship golf course, swimming pools, horseback riding, and more. About Kyle Hollingsworth

Thirty years ago, Kyle Hollingsworth set out on a career in music. Since then, with a wealth of desire and incredible ability, Hollingsworth has established himself as a formidable and versatile music talent. Today, as a member of acclaimed jam masters The String Cheese Incident, Hollingsworth is revered by both peers and fans for his ability to write and perform in a mosaic of styles, from rock to classical, ragtime to bebop. Playing in SCI has allowed him unrestricted access to the world of music, and has bestowed on him the kind of fearlessness a composer needs to flirt with such disparate genres. Those who’ve seen SCI know the band can move from funk to bluegrass on a chord change. “In the jam world, where there are no set ways of doing things, we’re not afraid to move in and out of genres,” he says, “and because of that I’ve learned to be creative, not only on stage but in the studio. I can get on board with something pretty quickly. You have to.”

Hollingsworth’s 2009 release, titled Then There’s Now, finds the musician coming in to his own. The String Cheese Incident announced their summer tour plans today. The complete list of shows is listed below. Tickets go on sale beginning March 6 through the band’s website, free of all ticket service fees.

A post on the band’s website reads:

Greetings from The String Cheese Incident Headquarters….the management team has been hard at work, racking our brains to try and come up with a couple of new and creative ideas for the Barefoot Boys that will properly capture the feeling of excitement we all get when we look ahead to Summer 2012…..we came up with a massive list of ideas that ranged from shooting Billy out of a cannon to having Kyle brew up a pool full of Summer Ale and inviting all of Boulder over for a swim…..unfortunately many of these ideas proved to either be prohibitively expensive, logistically impossible or just downright dumb…..however, we are pleased to report that we did come up with a couple that we wanted to share with everyone.

First, the most exciting thing we have seen sweep across the cultural landscape in the last couple of months has been the mania induced by New York Knick point guard Jeremy Lin….As Mr. Lin is often referred to by the global media as “the Michael Kang of Basketball” we felt that it was only fair for us to return the favor. Therefore, from this moment forth, the band will now be known as The String Cheese Lincident…. Not only are we thrilled by the obvious media boost this will provide for the band but think of the merch possibilities…..Lincredible!!

The second idea we are going to roll out this summer is one that we have actually been working on for a very long time. Way back in the summer of 2003, the band filed a lawsuit in Federal Court against Ticketmaster. The basic gist of the lawsuit was that the band wanted to maintain the ability to sell a large amount of tickets directly to the fans with the intention of keeping the service charge as reasonable as possible. Some very pointed discussions took place, the issue was resolved and the band continued selling tickets as they had always done. Fast forward to today and pay attention…..this is the exciting part….The String Cheese Incident is proud to announce that we have figured out a way to finally achieve the ultimate goal with this whole ticketing exercise…. The Summer Tour of 2012 will be SERVICE CHARGE FREE. That’s right…..if you order tix thru the band’s website there will be no service charge add-ons aside from shipping(which is out of our hands)….the ticket price that is listed is the price that you will pay. The band is going to cover the credit card fee….the band is going to cover the cost to take the orders and fulfill the tickets…..the cost of a $49.95 ticket to Red Rocks will cost you $49.95……the cost of a $49.95 ticket to the Greek will cost you $49.95…..a $239 ticket to Horning’s will be $49.95…just kidding, it will actually be $239….that’s it….super simple. We’ve got a big batch of tix to sell but the supply is not limitless….get ‘em while you can…..

As you will see below, the venues that the band will be visiting this summer have been chosen with lots of love and care….they are all epic and we couldn’t be more psyched to get out on the road.

Onward!!

From SCI’s Website:

After several years away from life on the road, we are really excited to finally get back on the bus and bring an Incident to a town near you. However, there is nothing like getting on the road and immersing ourselves in the nightly flow of playing music for all of you out there. We are truly psyched to make it back to a lot of our old stomping grounds as well as visiting a few new venues along the way. We feel incredibly fortunate to be able to share our music with you, get reacquainted with many old friends and make a lot of new ones! You can expect some classic SCI as well as newer material that we will be honing for some new recordings coming in 2012. We’ll see you this fall!
