After a $2 million renovation, Libbey Bowl in Ojai, CA will welcome the Classic Rock & Reggae Festival on July 12-14th.  Offering up a mixture of tribute acts including the music of Jerry Garcia Band, Grateful Dead, Cream, Lynard Skynard, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Foreigner, AC/DC. The Who and the Rolling Stones mixed with a myriad of local original talent, this looks like a great way to christen the newly remodeled venue.

Well, now I have to take back all the things I said about Phish not showing any love for the West Coast.  While my complaints were valid at the time, it appears that those in command of the Phish camp have heard our cries of feeling like the forgotten red headed step child and have scheduled a few tasty dates for the left-coasters.  I’m sorry to say that all the folks between Chicago and Nevada are still wishin’ to go Phishin’.

Phish returns to Los Angeles to perform at the legendary Hollywood Bowl on August 8th for their first performance in LA since 2003.  See, I told ya we were neglected.  Also added to the tour will be shows in Washington state, Lake Tahoe and a stop at the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco.  They’ll end the tour in Chicago, IL for a 3 night run.

So, the new Phish dates are:

August 5-6: The Gorge, George, WA

August 8th: Hollywood Bowl, Hollywood, CA

August 9-10: Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harvey’s, Stateline, NV

August 12th: Outside Lands Festival, San Francisco, CA

August 15-17: UIC Pavillion, Chicago, IL

A limited number of tickets are available NOW through Phish Tickets’ online ticketing system at http://phish.portals.musictoday.com for the recent additions. The ticket request period is currently underway and will end Monday, April 25th at Noon Eastern. Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, April 29. For complete ticketing info, please visit www.phish.com/tours.

It’s always nice when the festival comes to you.  Especially Southern California where we are starving for big fests that aren’t Coachella.  The 6th Annual Lightning in a Bottle Festival set for May 27-30, 2011 will be held at the 100 acre Oak Canyon Rance in Silverado, CA on beautiful Irvine Lake.  This site is the opposite side of the lake from where the OC Music Fest is held.  Lightning advertises three stages with Pretty Lights and Thievery Corporation DJ set topping the bill.  Presented by DoLab, this fest combines electronica madness with an eco message providing responsible living workshops, green theme and vegan and vegetarian food vendors.

Bill Nershi and String Cheese at Rothbury 2009

The location, Rothbury MI. The dates, June 30-July 3. The headliners, String Cheese Incident. After a one year hiatus, Madison House and Insomniac Events have returned to the site of the Rothbury Music Festival in Rothbury, MI to host another stellar incident, The Electric Forest Festival. The line up includes, of course, SCI but also the likes of REO Speedwagon (ah, WHAT?), Railroad Earth, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights and of course the various incarnations from the members of SCI including EOTO and the Emmett-Nershi Band.

Main Stage Field, Rothbury 2009

With an mix of jam bands and electronic music, Electric Forest Festival is, no doubt, going to take the experience that was Rothbury and take it to another level. Included will surely be the enchanted and psychedelic, Sherwood Forest as well as access to The Gold Rush Water Park, the Thoroughbred Golf Club, Big Wildcat Lake and horseback riding. Many opportunities to get adventurous in the Michigan countryside.

Park & Camp at Rothbury 2009

Suggestions:  We did Rothbury 2009 and camped in the  park and camp lot.  This place is HUGE with lots of walking.  They did have golf cart taxis to drive you around for a fee but, seriously, get there early to get into a lot near the gate.  Or better yet, RV and Cabin options make for closer walk and a much more comfy place to crash.  Again, be prepared to walk, a lot.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you.  However, if you live within the realm of “close enough” don’t pass up this festival.  It’s going to be off the charts!
